The aqueous solution of Benzalkonium Chloride shows neutral or weak alkaline reaction, and a large amount of foam is produced when shaking. This product is easily soluble in water or ethanol, slightly soluble in ether.
Applications:
Benzalkonium Chloride 50% Solution is important cationic quaternary ammonium surfactant, which is widely used in personal care, shampoo, hair conditioner and other products. This product has with good antistatic, pliable, antiseptic effect, also can be used in sterilization, printing and dyeing auxiliaries, fabric washing and other industries; Benzalkonium Chloride 50% Solution can be used in skin disinfection, mucous membrane and wound disinfection before operation.
Benzalkonium Chloride 50% Solution is a cationic surfactant, a broad-spectrum bactericide, which can change the permeability of bacterial cytoplasmic membrane, make the cytoplasmic substances of bacteria permeate, hinder their metabolism and play a killing role. It has strong effect on Gram-positive bacteria, but has no effect on Pseudomonas aeruginosa, acid resistant bacteria and cell spores. Benzalkonium Chloride 50% Solution is able to combine with protein rapidly, and reduce the effect significantly in the presence of blood, cotton, cellulose and organic matter. The concentration below 0.1% is not irritating to the skin.
Notes:
1. Quaternary ammonium surfactants like Benzalkonium Chloride 50% Solution have medium bactericidal intensity. As bactericides for surgical instruments and non-heat resistant articles, their efficacy is not accurate. Therefore, they have been replaced by other low toxic and efficient disinfectants in 2010, and they are not used for the disinfection of the above articles as far as possible.
2. This solution of Benzalkonium Chloride cannot be used for disinfection of soft corneal contact lens.
3. Benzalkonium Chloride 50% Solution can be polluted by microorganism. In order to reduce the risk of pollution, aseptic operation or dilution should be used before use. Fresh preparation should be made according to the required concentration. During the process of preservation and dilution, appropriate measures should be taken to prevent the possible pollution of this product.
4. Do not use Benzalkonium Chloride 50% Solution with soap, salt or other synthetic detergent at the same time. Avoid using aluminum containers. 0.5% sodium nitrite should be added to sterilized metal instruments to prevent rust.
5. Benzalkonium Chloride 50% Solution shall not be stored in the PVC bottle, so as to avoid reaction with the plasticizer contained in it, so as to make the efficacy disappear.
6. Benzalkonium Chloride 50% Solution is not suitable for disinfection of cystoscope, ophthalmic instruments and synthetic rubber.
Side effects:
If the dosage of benzalkonium chloride is appropriate, there is no adverse reaction. Excessive use may cause tachycardia, palpitation, angina, arrhythmia and headache.
