The most commonly used silicone oil - methyl silicone oil, also known as ordinary silicone oil, its organic groups are all methyl groups. Modified silicone oil refers to the product obtained after chemical modification of traditional silicone oil. By changing the molecular structure of silicone oil or adding functional groups, it has specific performance and application characteristics. Silicone oil is widely used in a variety of applications due to its excellent lubricity, water resistance and chemical stability.

Silicone oil is generally colorless (or light yellow), tasteless, non-toxic, non-volatile liquid. Silicone oil is insoluble in water, methanol, ethylene glycol and 2-ethoxyethanol, and can be miscible with benzene, dimethyl ether, methyl ethyl ketone, carbon tetrachloride or kerosene, slightly soluble in acetone, dioxane, ethanol and butanol, and easily soluble in benzene, toluene, xylene, ethyl ether and chloroalkanes. Silicone oil gives the molecular chain excellent flexibility due to its long Si-O bond length, large bond Angle, large molecular volume and high degree of free rotation. The shielding effect of organic groups on the molecular side chain makes the interaction between the molecular main chain weak, resulting in low surface tension. The bond energy of Si-O bond (460.5 kJ/mol) is significantly higher than that of C-O bond (358.0 kJ/mol), C-C bond (304.0 kJ/mol) and Si-C bond (318.2 kJ/mol), which gives it excellent aging resistance [4]. It has a small vapor pressure, high flash point and ignition point, low freezing point, and can be used for a long time in the temperature of -50ºC-+180ºC. Silicone oil has heat resistance, electrical insulation, weather resistance, hydrophobicity, physiological inertia and small surface tension, in addition to low viscosity-temperature coefficient, high resistance to compressibility, and some varieties also have radiation resistance. Strong shear resistance, more than 20 times the compressibility of general mineral oil, is an ideal liquid spring, excellent electrical characteristics, high breakdown voltage resistance, arc resistance, corona resistance, low dielectric loss, but also has good light transmission and non-toxic effects on the human body. In addition, silicone oil also has good film formation, hydrophobicity, air permeability and physiological inertia, which can form a soft and breathable protective film on the surface of the skin, so that the skin can keep tender and smooth.
